An immersive light installation celebrating the holiday season returns to the Crystal Bridge Conservatory at Myriad Botanical Gardens for a second year. Now open through January 5, Illuminations encompasses the entire Bridge which serves as a canvas for moving light choreographed to music and inviting visitors inside for a curated, immersive light experience.

Inspiration for this year’s show is the swirling blue and gold images of the painting The Starry Night, by Vincent Van Gogh. Illuminations: Starry Starry Night, will be designed to capture the unique lighting of a winter sky. Features this year include a lighted tunnel along the upper walkway of the Bridge and a special display in the area of the north side called the Oculus Room. Back for a second year will be the spinning hybycozo lamps. These geometric, iridescent sculptural lights cast out intricate shapes and shadows, and are associated with Burning Man, the annual summertime community gathering held in the Nevada desert.

Another highlight of Illuminations is the rare and beautiful plants inside the Conservatory, as well as a 15-foot poinsettia tree in the center of the Bridge which will be lit with specialty lights.

“The wonderful community response to our first Illuminations light show last year inspired us to create a new one for 2019,” said Maureen Heffernan, president and CEO of Myriad Gardens Foundation. “Spaces inside the Crystal Bridge serve as a unique and dramatic backdrop to enable us to use lighting and music for maximum artistic and creative effects. We look forward to debuting this year’s Illuminations installation for our guests to experience and enjoy this holiday season.”

Musical selections are purposefully curated to integrate with the lighting and will be holiday-themed. The installation is designed by Lightswitch, a consortium of internationally recognized lighting, media and visual designers.
