December Classes in the Gardens

We have a great holiday themed list of classes for children and adults that our education team has put together. Some have already sold out so signup soon!

Little Saplings

  • Tuesdays, December 4, 18, 10-11am
  • December 4 class is “Hibernating Animals”
  • Every Other Tuesday
  • Member $3; Nonmember $4
  • Best for ages 2 to 5
Join us in the Children’s Garden for an hour of songs, games, and interactive nature fun. Toddlers (and parents) will get to learn about the exciting world of gardens in an engaging and educational way. Each week features a new theme with corresponding activities and learning opportunities.

Reading Wednesdays

  • RETURNS Wednesday, December 5, 9:30-10:30am

  • FREE, Best for ages 2-5
Celebrate the return of Reading Wednesdays in our NEW classroom space! Enjoy hands on activities including games, a reading-themed photo op, and a DIY bookmark station. Stick around for a fun interactive story time at 10am and head home with a goody bag full of surprises!

Myriad Kitchen: Holiday Dessert

  • Friday, December 7, 6-7:30 pm
  • Member $20; Nonmember $27
Holidays in the kitchen are cherished memories. In this “make, take, and bake” workshop, the smell of Deep Dish Artisan Apple Pie will fill the room as you handcraft the crust from scratch, prepare the delicious filling, and assemble the pie. Take home to bake and enjoy when you want to eat it.

Winter Weather Wonderland

  • Saturday, December 8, 10-11am
  • Member $5; Nonmember $6
  • Best for ages 7 to 11
Join us as we take a closer look at how blizzards and ice storms are formed by observing science experiments and visiting the Children’s Garden weather station, where we will find instruments that meteorologists use to predict these storms. We will finish the class by creating an icicle ornament and a snow gauge to take home as the start of your very own weather station!

Winter Break Natural Card Making

  • Tuesday, December 18, 10am-Noon
  • Member $12; Nonmember $13
  • Best for ages 6 to 11
Create festive greeting cards using inspiration and items from nature to give as gifts to family and friends this holiday season. Kids will get to use a variety of supplies from the art closet and the garden to craft handmade cards and stationary. Kids can be dropped off for the program – perfect for kids on Winter Break.

December Drop-Ins

  • December 19, 20 & 21, 10am-Noon
  • Member $4; Nonmember $5
  • Best for ages 6 to 10
Kids will discover the beauty and fun nature has to offer even during the winter. Join us each day with story time every 30 minutes, holiday ornament or gift making and interactive education. Every day has a different theme and craft.

Gardens Walking Tour

  • Meet at the Visitor Center

  • Walkups Welcome
  • Geared towards adults, children and leashed dogs always welcome
Expand your knowledge of Oklahoma plants and find inspiration for your own garden with our educational walking tours. Each month will feature different plants from our outdoor collection that make great choices for our region – from spring color to drought tolerant choices and more. Self-guided plant tour handouts are available in our north lobby.
