aloud to kids and families. Many of the sessions will also include a children’s craft activity. OKC Reads is funded by a grant from the Junior League of Oklahoma City.

Readings will take place hourly beginning at 9am. The last readings of the day will be at 2pm. Participants can pick up a schedule and attend as many or as few readings as they would like. All ages are welcome and all sessions are free, and raffle drawings for books and gift cards for Half Price Books will be held.

Locations for the readings are in and near Children’s Garden: the Children’s Garden Lawn; the Children’s Garden Story Circle (affectionately known as ‘Stonehenge’) and the Pavilion, located just outside the Children’s Garden gates.

At 11:30, the Gardens’ new, magnificent Story Teller Chair will be officially unveiled. Thanks to a generous gift from Gail and Bill Beals, Oklahoma artist Don Narcomey has created a mystical throne that will bring delight to children and families for many years of storytelling and reading in the Children’s Garden. It is a striking piece, and the finest chair a story teller could wish for.

At 1pm, a very special reading will happen on the Water Stage – children’s author Stacy Nyikos will read her book “Rope ‘Em” and “Squirt.” Nyikos has written several books about sea life: 2005′s “Squirt,” about a squid; 2006′s “Shelby,” about a lemon shark; and 2008′s “Dizzy,” about a dolphin. She also is the author of the book “Dragon Wishes.” For more about the author, visit www.stacyanyikos.com . Nyikos will be available for book-signing from 2-3pm, and her books will be available for purchase.

At 3pm, Nyikos will lead a free creative writing workshop for children and their parents in the Dean A. McGee Center on the lower level of the Crystal Bridge.
