Classes for Children and Adults

This week we have two classes for kids, one class for adults and our usual monthly walking tour which is recommended for adults but children and dogs on leashes welcome. 

Sprouting Chefs: Pies

Pies have a mystique of being one of the most difficult desserts to create, but that’s a myth ready to be busted by your aspiring young baker. This Sprouting Chefs class will focus on teaching just how easy pie making can be. Kids will learn the basics of pie making, including crusts and fillings. The group will create and bake savory and sweet pies to enjoy for lunch.

Sunflowers brighten any room and you can learn how easy it can be to sow sunflower seeds and grow your own stately sunflowers. You’ll also get to enjoy the sunflower seeds from your blossoms. Lori Coats will teach about the sunflower plant, where the seeds come from and how to care for the plant. Each child will get to pot up some sunflower seed to take home and grow.

Few things compare to a homemade pie. Getting the crust right and filling just so can take lots of practice. Expert baker Jenny Dunham will fill you in on the basic ingredients needed for a flaky, delicious crust. She’ll talk types of fillings, from custard to fruit and chocolate and will share her favorite crust and filling recipes. Bring your own 9” pie crust because Jenny will walk you through making your own delectable strawberry pie, from crust to filling.
